Where the WC, bath and geyser belong
Read your bathroom plan with North at the top. The WC sits best towards the West or North-West. The geyser, the fire element, sits in the South-East. Keep bathing and drainage sloping towards the North-East.
Do and avoid
- Place the WC towards the West or North-West of the room.
- Slope the floor and drainage towards the North-East.
- Set the geyser in the South-East, the natural zone for heat.
- Ventilate with a window or exhaust on the East or North wall.
- Avoid a bathroom door opening directly onto the kitchen or pooja space.
- Avoid toilets in the North-East corner if it can be helped.
- Keep the door closed and the wet area dry between uses.
Find the North-West
With North at the top of your plan, locate the West and North-West of the room.
Set the WC
Place the WC there, keeping it away from the North-East corner.
Place the bath
Keep bathing and taps towards the North-East, with the floor sloping that way.
Plan the services
Set the geyser in the South-East and add an exhaust on the East or North.

Bathroom in a less ideal zone
If the bathroom cannot move, keep the WC off the North-East wall, improve the drainage slope, and add strong ventilation. Kept dry and aired, the space stays balanced.
Toilet in the North-East
Keep the door closed, ventilate well, and brighten the adjacent spaces. In a renovation, shifting the pan within the same room often settles it without moving plumbing far.
Colours that feel right
Lean on light, clean tones: white, soft grey and aqua keep the room fresh. Avoid heavy, dark palettes in small, wet spaces.
Light and air
A window or exhaust towards the East or North keeps the bathroom dry and fresh. Good ventilation matters more than any single rule.
