Read your kitchen plan with North at the top. The cooking zone wants warmth and morning light, so it sits in the South-East. Water sits away from fire, towards the North-East. Heavier storage settles in the South-West.
With North at the top of your plan, locate the South-East of the room.
Put the cooking platform there, so the cook faces East.
Keep the sink and water to the North-East, away from fire.
Grains and heavy provisions go to the South or West.
Few homes have a perfect plan, and that is alright. Vastu is about balance, not anxiety. Here is how we ease the situations that come up most often, with placement, colour and light rather than demolition.
If the kitchen cannot move, keep the cooking platform itself in the South-East part of that room, and bring in warm light and good ventilation. The space still works beautifully.
Keep a solid counter gap between them, or place them on different runs of the layout. A strip of stone or a small divider between fire and water settles it.
Lean on warm, earthy tones: terracotta, soft yellow and warm white suit the South-East and keep the room calm. Save deep, cool blues for accents away from the stove.
A window or exhaust towards the East or South keeps the kitchen fresh. Good task lighting over the counter matters more than any single rule.
Treat Vastu as one input alongside how you actually cook and live. A kitchen that is well lit, well ventilated and easy to work in is already doing most of the good.
The same practical approach, room by room. Pick where you want to go next.
