Rough walls

Textured or porous surfaces absorb more, so coverage per litre drops. Round up.

Paint type

Matte, satin and exterior paints cover differently. Check the tin for its own coverage.

Dark over light

Going darker, or over a strong old colour, often needs an extra coat to look solid.

How many coats do you need?
