A
- Acrylic finish
- A high-gloss, mirror-like surface made by bonding an acrylic sheet to the board. Brighter and more scratch-resistant than laminate, and it costs more.
B
- BOQ (Bill of Quantities)
- An itemised list of every material and labour line in your project, with quantities and rates. Your locked quote is built straight from the BOQ.
- BWP plywood
- “Boiling Water Proof” plywood (IS:710), the most moisture-resistant grade. Best for kitchens, bathrooms and other wet areas.
- BWR ply
- “Boiling Water Resistant” plywood (IS:303). Handles humidity well but sits a step below BWP; fine for general wardrobes and dry areas.
C
- Carcass
- The internal box of a cabinet or wardrobe (sides, top, bottom, back) that everything else mounts onto. Its grade decides how long the unit lasts.
- Cove lighting
- Concealed LED strip lighting tucked into a ledge or false-ceiling recess that washes light up or down for a soft, indirect glow.
F
- False ceiling
- A secondary ceiling hung below the structural one to hide wiring and ducts and to mount lighting. Common types are POP, gypsum board and cove.
- FF&E
- “Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment”: the loose, movable items in a project (sofas, beds, lights, appliances), as opposed to built-in work.

- Grade certificate
- A document confirming the exact grade of a material you were billed for (for example IS:710 plywood), so there are no silent substitutions.
- GST (CGST / SGST)
- The Goods and Services Tax on interior work. Within Tamil Nadu it splits into CGST and SGST at equal rates; an honest quote shows it as a clear, GST-inclusive line.
- Gypsum board
- Pre-made boards used for clean, flat false ceilings and partitions. Faster and more uniform than site-mixed POP.

- HDHMR
- “High Density High Moisture Resistance” board, an engineered alternative to plywood with a dense, even core that holds screws well and resists swelling.
L
- Laminate
- A thin printed decorative sheet pressed onto board for shutters and surfaces. The everyday, hard-wearing, budget-friendly finish, in matte, gloss and textures.
- Lumens
- A measure of how much light a bulb actually gives out (its brightness), unlike watts which measure power used. Plan room lighting by lumens, not watts.
M
- MDF
- “Medium Density Fibreboard”, a smooth engineered board made from compressed wood fibres. Great for painted and lacquered surfaces, but weaker than plywood in wet areas.
- Membrane
- A finish where a single PVC foil is heat-pressed and wrapped over a routed MDF shutter, giving seamless edges and moulded designs with no visible joints.
- Modular
- Furniture built from standardised, factory-made units that are assembled on site. Faster, cleaner and more precise than fully site-built carpentry.
- MR ply
- “Moisture Resistant” plywood (commercial / IS:303-MR), suited to dry interior areas like bedroom wardrobes. Not for kitchens or bathrooms.
P
- POP
- “Plaster of Paris”, a site-applied material used to mould false ceilings and cornices into curved or custom shapes.
- PU / lacquer
- Polyurethane lacquer, a sprayed, multi-coat paint finish that gives a smooth, rich, durable surface in any colour, matte or glossy. Premium and fully customisable.
Q
- Quote-Lock
- Our guarantee that the price you approve is the price you pay. The only change is a signed, costed change order you approve first.
R
- Running foot
- A pricing and measuring unit for linear work like kitchens and wardrobes: the length in feet along the run, whatever the height. Often written “Rft”.
S
- Shutter
- The door front of a cabinet or wardrobe. Its finish (laminate, acrylic, membrane, PU or veneer) sets the look and a big part of the cost.
- Soft-close hinge
- A hinge with a built-in damper that pulls the door shut slowly and silently in the last few centimetres, so it never slams.
V
- Vastu
- Vastu Shastra, a traditional Indian system of design that guides room placement and directions to support comfort and balance at home.
- Veneer
- A thin slice of real wood bonded to board, giving a natural timber grain. Each piece is unique and is usually sealed with a protective coat.
